CAIRO/MUNICH, Feb 14 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emgration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed Friday in Munich with Helga Maria Schmid, the candidate to the post of President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the latest developments in the Middle East region.
During their meeting, held on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s position towards the Palestinian issue, highlighting Cairo's efforts to fully implement Gaza ceasefire agreement, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the war-battered Palestinian enclave, and the importance of post-war reconstruction to ensure the continued presence of the Palestinian people in their homeland.
The talks also took up the political developments in Libya and Syria, as well as the security and stability of the Horn of Africa.
The top Egyptian diplomat welcomed Schmid's nomination for the position of President of the UNGA, emphasizing Egypt’s interest in strengthening ties with the United Nations and promoting multilateralism.
He pointed to Egypt’s support for the UN Secretary General's initiative for the convocation of the Summit on the Future in September 2024, in an effort to reform the multilateral system, urging all countries to respect international law and avoid double standards.
He said that Egypt agrees with the UN Secretary General’s proposal on the necessity of reforming the global financial system to make it more just and equitable for developing countries, highlighting Egypt’s initiatives during its presidency of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference to find innovative solutions to expand the mechanisms for developing countries to access concessional financing and alleviate their debt burdens.
