CAIRO/MUNICH, Feb 14 (MENA) - President of the European Council António Costa, praised during his meeting Friday in Munich with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, Egypt's pivotal role in achieving the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and supporting security and stability in the Middle East.
Costa requested that his greetings be conveyed to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, stressing that Egypt is an important partner for the European Union.
For his part, the Egyptian top diplomat praised the progress witnessed in Egypt's relations with the European Union since the issuance of the joint declaration to elevate their relationship to a strategic and comprehensive partnership, emphasizing Egypt's commitment to further strengthening its foundations.
He praised the European financial package provided to Egypt, asking for the European Council president’s support for the swift approval of its second tranche which amounts to 4 billion euros.
The discussion also covered the unfolding developments in the Middle East, with Abdelatty shedding light Egypt's tireless efforts to ensure the full implementation of all three phases of Gaza ceasefire agreement.
He affirmed Egypt's intention to present a comprehensive vision for early recovery and post-war reconstruction operations in Gaza while ensuring that the Palestinian people remain in their homeland.
