CAIRO, June 22 (MENA) - Minister of Culture Ahmed Fouad Henno said Egypt has renowned figures who have devoted their lives and knowledge to serving humanity foremost among them the world highly acclaimed surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub as he is a true embodiment of meaning of humanity.

During a press conference held Sunday at the Cairo Opera House to announce the details of a statue of the globally acclaimed Egyptian surgeon Magdi Yacoub in Kit Kat Square, the minister of culture said, the legendary cardiologist realized that healing came mostly from the heart.

Henno said the statue conveys an important message to future generations.

Sir Magdi Yacoub, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Assistant Minister of Culture for Cultural and Artistic Projects and head of the Cultural Development Fund Hamdy Sattouhi took part in the event.

The minister of culture said the creation of this statue represents the values embodied by the “doctor of hearts” and constantly reminds us of the importance of role models and of honoring Egypt’s icons who have contributed to building the nation.

Henno said young people need role models who contribute to nation-building, emphasizing that placing these role models in public squares is a path the ministry seeks to continue in celebration of scientists.

The minister of culture expressed his gratitude to the minister of health and population, Minister of Local Development Manal Awad, Giza Governor Adel el-Naggar and leaders at the Ministry of Culture for their efforts in bringing this project to life.

For his part, Sir Magdi Yacoub said, the development and advancement of nations highly rely on culture, which includes many vital elements such as community service, science, and scientific research. He pointed to the close relationship between art, science and health, expressing his deep love and appreciation for both art and science. (MENA)
