In his speech during the opening session of the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Salem Merzoug praised the efforts of Egypt in supporting the Palestinian cause. At the same time, he condemned the international community's failure to protect the suffering Palestinian people from the genocide they are facing, as well as the obstruction of the delivery of essential and life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Merzoug emphasized the need to enhance collective capabilities in response to the rapidly changing geostrategic dynamics.
He expressed his country's deep concern over the ongoing catastrophic situation in Gaza, calling for urgent action to stop the grave violations being inflicted on the Palestinian people.
For his part, Comorian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mbaye Mohamed emphasized that the Palestinian issue remains the core of the conflict in the Middle East and the key to resolving the region's issues. He highlighted that it represents the Palestinian people's right to life and the realization of their legitimate aspirations to establish their independent state.
Mbayi concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of strengthening joint Arab action through the Arab League, which requires all Arab states to double efforts to develop the mechanisms of the Arab League, thereby enhancing its effectiveness and international role.
For his part, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al Jubeir called for continued Arab efforts to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.
He emphasized the necessity of maintaining a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, affirming his country's firm rejection of any attempts at forced displacement or the imposition of solutions that do not meet the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination.
Afterward, the Iraqi President announced the conclusion of the opening session of the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad and the commencement of the closed working session of the Arab Summit.
