SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt, Nov 7 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli witnessed on Monday the inking of a memorandum of understanding between the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) and AstraZeneca Egypt company to promote the green health facilities concept.
GHA Board Chairman Ahmed Sobki signed the memo with AstraZeneca Egypt Board Chairman Hatem Wardani on the sidelines of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27).
After the inking ceremony, Premier Madbouli said the inking of the MoU falls within the framework of Egypt's efforts to address climate change and goes in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's initiative "Go Green" to spread environmental awareness.
He said applying the concept of green health facilities will enhance climate action and lure more investments to the healthcare domain in addition to securing more jobs and serving the health sector, especially the comprehensive health insurance system.
For his part, Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said this is the second time for cooperation between the GAH and AstraZeneca Egypt, noting that the two sides collaborated in securing a small field hospital to ensure high-level health services for COP27 delegations.
He lauded the fruitful cooperation between the two sides, adding that this goes in line with the Egypt Vision 2030 for sustainable development.
Meanwhile, the GAH head said the memo falls within the framework of promoting several activities related to green transition at the authority's affiliated hospitals, especially through establishing clean energy stations, using medical equipment with low-carbon footprint, using clean water and ensuring optimal use of medical waste.
Under the memo, a project for establishing a charging stations for electric vehicles will be funded, he said.
He added that the success of the GAH-affiliated Sharm el Sheikh International Hospital in South Sinai to earn the international recognition of the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals marks a cornerstone for turning the GAH facilities into green ones.
Meanwhile, the AstraZeneca board chairman said the Egyptian state succeeded to surpass all expectations in developing the healthcare sector.
He stressed the company's commitment to its strategic role towards upgrading the healthcare sector in Egypt. (MENA)
