CAIRO, Oct 22 (MENA) - Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Migration, Refugees, and Combating Human Trafficking Wael Badawi co-chaired a joint High-Level Meeting of the Khartoum Process and Rabat Process, representing Egypt as the current Chair of the Khartoum Process.
The meeting was held in Lisbon on October 16-17 under the co-chairmanship of Egypt and Portugal, currently serving as Chair of the Rabat Process.
With the participation of 150 representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, interior and labor from 52 European and African countries, the meeting provided a platform for EU-African dialogue on labor migration, skills development, and mobility.
The meeting provided an opportunity to share experiences and best practices regarding the establishment of regular migration pathways within the framework of implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, Badawi said in press statements on Tuesday.
He said participants had been briefed on the Egyptian approach to dealing with migration in a comprehensive manner that takes into account its root causes, as well as the importance of dealing with it in a balanced manner that recognizes the developmental and human dimensions of the migration problem.
Meanwhile, participants applauded Egypt's initiative to convene this meeting, which highlighted the similarity of the challenges faced by origin as well as destination countries. (MENA)
