NEW ADMINISTRATIVE CAPITAL, July 9 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said the Egyptian state has invested heavily in building a modern road network, noting that around 7,000 kilometers of new roads have been constructed while more than 8,000 kilometers of existing roads have been upgraded according to modern standards.

Addressing a press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting in the New Administrative Capital, Madbouli noted that he directed relevant ministers to increase spending on road maintenance works to achieve the desired results.

The prime minister pointed out that the Regional Ring Road has become one of the most important traffic axes in Egypt, noting that nearly 30% of transportation movement in the country passes through it.

This necessitates increased maintenance efforts to preserve the road’s efficiency and sustainability, he added.

Madbouli noted that the cabinet was directed during today’s meeting to develop an executive plan through relevant ministries with a view to reducing the average number of road accidents in Egypt to below the global average.

“Just as we succeeded in expanding the network, improving roads, and raising Egypt’s global ranking in road network quality from 118 to 18, we will also work on improving Egypt’s ranking in terms of road accident rates by reducing them,” the prime minister said. (MORE)
