Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said the state has responded swiftly and efficiently to the fire that has broken out at a key data center in Cairo’s Ramses square.

All relevant authorities, including the Cairo governorate, the Ministry of Communications, emergency services, and civil defense teams have acted immediately, he added.

In the same regard, he praised the heroic role played by the fire department in containing the crisis.

Madbouli said the state immediately implemented emergency procedures following the blaze, including the transfer of fixed internet services from the data center in Ramses to another one in El Rawda area.

It also activated an emergency plan for air traffic, and ensured the protection of the subsidized bread system to prevent any disruption, he noted.

The prime minister pointed out that the fire has led to partial disruptions in some communication services, including mobile networks, banking apps, and trading platforms, prompting the stock exchange to take precautionary measures and temporarily suspend operations before resuming trading today.

Regarding rumors alleging that Egypt relies solely on the Ramses data center, Madbouli dismissed as groundless such rumors, saying Egypt does not rely on a single data center and is having comprehensive digital infrastructure.

The service is gradually recovering, and full restoration is expected within the coming hours, he said. (MENA)
