CAIRO, June 22 (MENA) - Head of the Central Operations Administration at the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) Amira Mahgoub said that Egypt is striving to operate in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) quality standards to ensure the provision of safe and effective medication for patients.
This came during the launch of a new project to support pharmaceutical supply and distribution chains, jointly organized by the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and the Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry, in collaboration with Kareem Pharma.
The project aims to ensure equitable distribution of medicines across the Egyptian market, making them more consistently available at pharmacies. It also supports the qualification and accreditation of distribution companies and warehouses in line with Good Storage and Distribution Practices (GSDP) standards.
Mahgoub explained that the core goal of the project is to stabilize the pharmaceutical market by ensuring an uninterrupted supply of essential medicines through collaborative and integrated efforts.
The project is particularly geared toward enhancing the capabilities of small and medium-sized pharmaceutical warehouses, offering them similar advantages enjoyed by larger distribution companies, she said.
She added that the project plays a key role in governing and regulating the pharmaceutical supply chain by applying GSDP standards and guaranteeing fair access to medications across all pharmacies nationwide.
Mahgoub asserted the EDA’s commitment to digitizing and modernizing the pharmaceutical supply sector, especially with regard to warehouses and distribution companies.
She said that by the end of 2026, all pharmaceutical warehouses and distribution companies are expected to be fully accredited.
Furthermore, she announced that the EDA is preparing to issue a similar accreditation framework for pharmacies, reinforcing a transparent and fair distribution system capable of accommodating new market players. (MENA)
