CAIRO, June 15 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed during a phone call Sunday with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides that peaceful solutions remain the only means to ensure security and stability in the region.

Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el-Shenawy said, the phone call took up regional developments as President Sisi stressed Egypt's absolute rejection of expanding the scope of conflict in the region.

The president also accentuated the importance of halting Israeli military operations on the various regional fronts, warning that the current approach would result in serious repercussions for all peoples of the region without exception, the spokesman said.

President Sisi underlined the necessity of having the international community play a more effective role in urging regional parties to assume their responsibilities, emphasizing that peaceful solutions remain the only viable means of ensuring security and stability in the region, he added.

In this regard, President Sisi underscored the need to return to US-Iran negotiations, under the auspices of Oman, for representing the optimal solution to current tensions, according to the spokesman.

He emphasized Egypt's firm stand on the necessity of establishing a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, including all countries in the region, noted the spokesman.

President Sisi also said that finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue remains the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East, that could be achieved through an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, release of hostages and detainees, establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, lines with Al Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital, as well as providing security for all peoples of the region, he added.
