CAIRO, June 2 (MENA) - The General Secretariat of the Arab League (Social Affairs Sector – Family and Childhood Department) held a regional workshop virtually on internal displacement and its impact on children in the Arab region, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The General Secretariat stated in a press release Monday that the workshop is part of the 2024–2025 joint action plan between the League’s Social Affairs Sector – Family and Childhood Department and the UNHCR, which aims at strengthening cooperation to address internal displacement issues and its consequences.

Participants in the workshop include representatives of relevant mechanisms from member states responsible for asylum and displacement issues, as well as experts and specialists in childhood affairs across the Arab region.

The workshop agenda includes several key themes designed to enhance understanding of international and regional legal frameworks for the protection of internally displaced persons (IDPs), highlight the specific challenges and needs of displaced children and present proposals to improve their humanitarian and legal conditions.
