GAZA CITY/WASHINGTON, June 1 (MENA) -
At least 21 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded Sunday morning while heading to receive food aid in the Gaza Strip, the Associated Press (AP) reported quoting a Red Cross field hospital and eyewitnesses.

According to eyewitnesses Israeli forces fired on crowds about a kilometer, or about 1,000 yards, from an aid site run by an Israeli-backed organization.

While the Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the organization said - in a statement - that it delivered aid "without incident" Sunday morning and denied previous accounts of chaos and gunfire around its outlets, located in Israeli military zones where independent access is limited.

Officials at the field hospital said at least 21 people were killed and 175 wounded, without identifying those who fired.

An AP reporter said he saw dozens of people being treated at the hospital.

The distribution of aid by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation was chaotic, while witnesses reported that Israeli forces fired on crowds near the distribution sites.
