AMMAN/CAIRO, July 7 (MENA) - President of Arab Parliament (AP) Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Yamahi praised the role of Jordanian diplomacy in defending Arab causes and supporting joint Arab action.
During the AP’s president meeting Monday with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Yamahi commended Jordan's firm and steadfast stand in support of joint Arab action and Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, under the leadership of King Abdullah II.
He valued Jordan’s unwavering stance in rejecting any attempts to displace the Palestinian people or undermine their legitimate rights, especially the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The AP president is on an official visit to the Jordan leading a parliamentary delegation to explore ways to enhance joint cooperation.
Yamahi also appreciated the intensive efforts and initiatives undertaken by Jordan to achieve an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to press for the facilitation of humanitarian aid into the Strip to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The AP president praised the performance of Jordanian diplomacy in defending Arab causes at the United Nations and other international bodies, and for representing Arab positions with wisdom and balance in international forums.
Meantime, Yamahi emphasized the importance of coordinating stances between Arab parliaments and the foreign ministries of Arab countries, as part of complementarity between parliamentary and official diplomacy.
He also touched on the outcomes of his recent visit, heading a delegation from the Parliament to the Rafah border crossing, where they witnessed firsthand the suffering of the Palestinian people due to the crimes of the occupation.
For his part, the Jordanian deputy prime minister affirmed Jordan’s support for the efforts of the AP and its role in serving Arab causes. He also valued the AP’s work in defending Arab issues and interests in the face of regional challenges, especially its firm positions in defending the Palestinian cause.
Safadi reiterated the need to stop Israeli occupation’s aggression on Gaza and to end the humanitarian catastrophe caused by this aggression, calling for a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza through Egyptian, Qatari and US efforts supported by Jordan.
He also stressed the need to bring the occupation’s illegal and illegitimate practices in the occupied West Bank to an end, which undermine the two-state solution and all prospects for achieving just and lasting peace. Safadi confirmed the necessity of supporting the Syrian government’s efforts to rebuild Syria on foundations that guarantee its security, stability, and sovereignty, preserve the rights of its people, and restore Syria’s leading role in joint Arab action.
At the conclusion of the discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of joint Arab action in resolving the crises facing the Arab world and strengthening cooperation in all fields.(MENA)
