CAIRO/AMMAN, June 1 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has reaffirmed Egypt’s position as regards the need to resume the inter-Yemeni dialogue with a view to reaching a political settlement of the Yemeni crisis that shall get consensus from various Yemeni factions, preserve the country’s unity, end the humanitarian crisis, and fulfill the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting he held on Sunday in Amman with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The foreign minister praised the Omani mediation efforts, which have led to a ceasefire agreement in Yemen with the United States, expressing hope that the agreement would be sustained and would help restore normal navigation rates in the Red Sea.

Abdelatty emphasized that the security and stability of Yemen are crucial to Egypt’s national security and the security of the region.

He was also briefed by the UN envoy on the outcomes of his recent contacts with Yemeni and regional parties, as well as his assessment of the possibility of reaching progress toward resuming the political process in Yemen.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for legitimacy in Yemen, noting that Egypt hosts large numbers of Yemeni citizens on its soil. (MENA)
