CAIRO, May 18 (MENA) - The Egyptian Embassy in Canberra and the Consulate General in Sydney, in cooperation with relevant Australian authorities, succeeded in recovering 21 artifacts that had been illegally smuggled out of Egypt.
This comes as part of the intensive efforts made by Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad to recover smuggled Egyptian antiquities.
The recovered artifacts included 21 pieces that had been on display at an auction house, in addition to a fragment of a mural of Seshen-Nefertem, which was part of the collection of Macquarie University, and an ancient nail believed to have belonged to a royal coffin.
These efforts, which coincide with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, reflect the existing cooperation between Egypt and Australia and the mutual desire to enhance cooperation in various fields, including the protection of cultural heritage and the fight against illicit trafficking in antiquities.
