CAIRO, Dec 5 (MENA) - Upon directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty made on Thursday intense phone calls with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Syrian Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Araghchi and UAE's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to address the latest developments in Syria.
Abdelatty discussed with his counterparts the situation on the ground in northern Syria and its grave implications for the security and stability of the region.
The Egyptian foreign minister reiterated Egypt's firm position toward supporting the Syrian state and the need of respecting the sovereignty, unity and safety of Syria.
He underlined that it is important to protect the civilian population in the country.
Abdelatty underscored the necessity of intensifying regional and international efforts to contain the situation and calm tension in Syria in order not to avoid further escalations that could threaten the security and stability in the region and worldwide.
He also reiterated Egypt's full rejection of sectarian violence and strife in Syria.
The conversations are part of efforts exerted by Egypt to closely follow up on the latest developments in Syria with active regional and international parties.
On Wednesday, Abdelatty exchanged viewpoints with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov regarding ways of stopping the escalation in Syria and restoring security and stability. (MENA)
