BRASILIA July 2 (MENA) - Representatives of the BRICS member states, known as "Sherpa," held a series of preparatory meetings for the upcoming summit hosted by the city of Rio de Janeiro next week, to discuss the issues on the agenda, said TV BRICS Wednesday.

The news network indicated that the discussions focused on three main topics: health, artificial intelligence, and climate change. It noted that the health ministers of the BRICS countries had previously held a meeting at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília, during which they adopted a final declaration that included recommendations to eliminate diseases linked to social factors and to boost vaccine production among member states.

The ministers emphasized that the engagement of national leaders would be essential to advancing global health equity.

In the field of artificial intelligence, BRICS ministers of science and technology encouraged the ethical regulation of AI and its use in solving global issues such as poverty and inefficiencies in the education sector.

As for climate change, the leaders' summit is expected to address concrete measures to mitigate its effects, while promoting environmental multilateralism and more inclusive global governance among developing nations.

Rio de Janeiro will host this year’s BRICS Summit from July 6–7 under the theme: "Advancing Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance." (MENA)
