NEW ALAMEIN, June 24 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli reviewed the progress of a partnership agreement between Oxford University and Egypt’s 500500 Cancer Hospital to develop CAR‑T cell gene therapy for cancer treatment.
The project, based on an agreement signed at Cairo University in December 2024, aims to create a center for CAR-T cell therapy to treat leukemia and lymphoma.
During the talks, Madbouli said that the initiative supports Egypt’s national health strategy, especially in early cancer detection and advanced treatment. The project includes technology transfer, training programs, and plans to produce low-cost therapies locally.
For his part, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour said that several meetings have been held between Oxford and Cairo University to prepare for implementation.
Mohamed Abdel Moati, Dean of the National Cancer Institute, presented the work plan to produce CAR-T cells and train Egyptian specialists.
Meanwhile, Presidential health adviser Mohamed Awad Tag el Din and health committee chairman Ashraf Hatim confirmed the project's potential to improve treatment and expand local medical expertise through collaboration with Oxford. (MENA)
