ALAMEIN, Egypt, June 24 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has stressed that the government is keen to support the sugar industry as one of key strategic sectors in Egypt.
The government also works on making use of promising opportunities to contribute to achieving the industry's growth and expansion through backing agricultural production of sugar crops and other related integrated industries under the state’s objective to enhance food security, he said.
The premier’s remarks came Tuesday at a meeting at the Cabinet headquarters in New Alamein City to discuss and review the opportunities and challenges facing the sugar industry in Egypt.
The meeting was attended by Ali El-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Ghada Nour, Assistant Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade and a host of senior officials from relevant ministries and bodies. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, via videoconference.
Madbouly issued directives to concerned ministers to hold a meeting with sugar manufacturers to present the government’s strategy on the sector.
Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany stated that the meeting reviewed the main pillars of the government’s strategy for achieving the growth of the sugar industry, as well as ways to support this vital sector and enhance its role.
The spokesperson added that the meeting also covered ongoing efforts to implement environmental remediation plans across Egypt’s sugar factories, in accordance with applicable environmental standards, and to apply the necessary measures to ensure sustainability within these facilities. (MENA)
