CAIRO, June 23 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli reaffirmed the government’s commitment to overseeing electricity conservation measures and the implementation of the solar panel project in the Government District of the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
He stressed that enhancing electricity efficiency should be aligned with the rollout of new and renewable energy projects to reduce dependence on conventional fuel sources.
This came during a meeting held on Monday to follow up on electricity consumption rationalization measures in the Government District.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Deputy Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Mohamed Sayyed, representative of the Capital City Development Authority (ACUD) Ahmed Fahmy and other senior officials.
The minister of electricity stated that the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) has been directed to implement an urgent action plan to reduce energy consumption in response to current conditions.
He explained that electricity consumption could be further reduced through public awareness and cooperation, emphasizing that responsible energy use reflects a collective commitment to conserving resources, not a shortfall in electricity supply.
He also noted the ministry’s ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to ensure a stable electricity supply, alongside continued efforts to expand and operate renewable energy projects, particularly solar initiatives aimed at boosting clean energy production.
Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed el-Homsany said the premier reviewed the electricity conservation plan for buildings within the Government District.
The plan includes specific measures, such as fully disconnecting power after working hours, replacing non-efficient lightbulbs with LED alternatives, and raising staff awareness about consumption rationalization, as part of broader government efforts to sustain reliable electricity supply.
During the meeting, Fahmy provided an update on the NAC solar energy project, confirming that all government buildings in the district are now equipped with solar power systems and connected to the national grid.
He added that maintenance teams clean the solar panels twice a month as part of the operation and maintenance consortium for government buildings, which helps enhance the efficiency of energy production. (MENA)
