CAIRO, June 18 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty voiced appreciation for the European Parliament (EP)'s majority voting for the final revision on a decision on granting Egypt the second tranche of financial support amounting to 4 billion euros.
This reflected the European Parliament's appreciation for the comprehensive and strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, he said.
He made the remarks during a phone call on Wednesday with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.
Abdelatty underlined keenness on proceeding with the implementation of the strategic partnership axes in various fields.
Meanwhile, Metsola conveyed appreciation to President Abbdel Fattah El Sisi for his wise leadership as well as Egypt’s balanced role amid current the regional turmoil.
She said that the majority vote of the European Parliament members in favor of the decision reflected full recognition of Egypt’s role in promoting security and stability in the region.
The two sides exchanged views on their assessment of the rapid developments in the region.
Abdelatty briefed Metsola on the recent Egyptian contacts with an aim to de-escalate tension, contain the situation, and prevent the risk of pushing the region into the abyss of a full-scale war.
He emphasized the importance of returning to the negotiating table as the only way to reach a sustainable agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.(MENA)
