BRASILIA, June 15 (MENA) - Vehicle licensing in Brazil saw a notable increase in May, rising 16.2 per cent year-on-year to 225,710 units, according to the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), TV BRICS reported on Sunday.

Compared to April, there was an 8.1 per cent uptick. From January to May, total vehicle licensing rose 6.1 per cent over the same period in 2024, totalling 986,158 units.

Passenger cars and light commercial vehicles led the surge, with a 17 per cent increase in May year-on-year and an 8.8 per cent rise compared to April. In total, 930,231 light vehicles were licensed in the first five months of the year.

Hybrid and electric vehicles reached a record 10.4 per cent market share in May, while imported models accounted for 54 per cent of the growth in sales.

By 3 June, Brazil had already hit one million registered vehicles for the year, eight days earlier than in 2024. Sales to rental companies also contributed significantly, reaching 56,600 units in May alone.

Exports have also seen a strong performance. Revenue from vehicle and agricultural machinery exports reached US$1.317 billion in May, a 60.2 per cent increase year-on-year and up 12.5 per cent from April. (MENA)
