CAIRO, June 12 (MENA) - The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said the Mineral Resources Law, ratified by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and published in the official Gazette on Wednesday comes within the framework of the political leadership's efforts to achieve a real breakthrough in the mining sector and maximize the added value of mineral resources.
In a statement Thursday, the ministry explained that the new law stipulates transforming the Egyptian General Authority for Mineral Resources (EMRA) into the Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority with an independent economic structure.
All changes are meant to enhance the Authority's ability to lead the mining sector more efficiently and grant it expanded powers to develop sector development strategies, regulate mineral exploration and exploitation, localize mining industries, promote transparency and attract investment, the statement read.
The amendments also include regulating the issuance of licenses to operate rock and ore analysis laboratories, implementing a cashless payment system for collecting fees, imposing deterrent fines for operating without a license, and creating an investment-friendly environment through advanced regulatory and financial mechanisms that enable the authority to achieve financial sustainability, it added.
According to the ministry's statement, the issuance of the law will achieve a qualitative shift in the development of the Egyptian mining sector, following concerted and integrated efforts.
It will establish a new phase of institutional work based on efficiency and governance, said the statement.
The step would further help enhance Egypt's Vision 2030 towards a competitive and sustainable economy and consolidate Egypt's stand as a regional center for mining industries, it added.
The official Gazette published Wednesday, in Issue No. 23 (A), Presidential Decree No. 87 of 2025 amending certain provisions of Law No. 198 of 2014 promulgating the Mineral Resources Law. (MENA)
