CAIRO, June 4 (MENA) – The French Development Agency (AFD), the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, the Essam and May Allam Foundation, and the Louis Dreyfus Foundation launched a joint initiative to support smallholder farmers across Egypt.
The project, titled “Innovative Climate-Smart Agricultural Solutions for Small Farmers,” will begin in Sohag and Minya governorates in Upper Egypt. It offers integrated services to help rural farmers deal with climate vulnerability, limited credit access, and market challenges.
The initiative will provide tailored financial products that encourage farmers to adopt climate-resilient practices and improve crop quality and yields.
AFD’s Deputy Director General Marie-Hélène Loison said that the agency will offer technical support through its impact evaluation unit. She welcomed the collaboration with Egyptian and international partners.
Naguib Sawiris, Co-Founder of the Sawiris Foundation, described the partnership as a milestone for sustainable rural development. He said the project expands direct support to farmers most in need.
Leila Hosny, Executive Director of the Sawiris Foundation, said that the initiative offers practical ways to raise incomes and economic stability for vulnerable communities.
Louis Dreyfus Foundation Director General Robert Serpollet affirmed that the partnership supports more resilient agricultural communities and a sustainable food system.
Hassan Allam, Chairman of the Essam & Maye Allam Foundation, and Amr Allam, the Vice Chairman, stressed their commitment to evidence-based farming solutions that improve productivity and help break the cycle of poverty. (MENA)
