CAIRO, May 27 (MENA) – Egypt and Spain reaffirmed their unequivocal rejection of the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza and any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid.
In a phone call on Tuesday, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stressed the need to revive efforts toward a two-state solution, including expanding international recognition of a Palestinian state. They also voiced support for an Arab-Islamic reconstruction initiative for Gaza that avoids displacing its residents.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy, the leaders underscored their commitment to building on the momentum in bilateral relations, following Sisi’s visit to Madrid in February 2025. They discussed enhancing cooperation across economic, trade, and investment sectors in alignment with the interests of both nations.
The two sides also reviewed the broader regional situation, including developments in Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and Libya. They emphasized the importance of preserving the unity and territorial integrity of these countries and ensuring the safety of their citizens. They agreed to maintain close coordination on regional issues, given their countries’ key roles in fostering regional stability.
