CAIRO, May 25 (MENA) - The House of Representatives, led by Speaker Hanafy Gebaly, gave final approval to two draft laws amending the House of Representatives Law (No. 46/2014 and No. 174/2020) and the Senate Law (No. 141/2020), along with updated electoral district maps.

The changes, proposed by MP Abdel Hadi el-Qasabi and over 10% of MPs, aim to ensure fair and proportional representation of population and governorates, based on 2025 data from Egypt’s statistics authority and the national election commission. Minor adjustments were made to reflect new administrative divisions and demographic shifts.

The amendments follow Article 102 of the Constitution, which mandates equitable representation, and were guided by Supreme Constitutional Court rulings calling for balanced voter-to-seat ratios. The revisions introduce clear representation metrics, allow reasonable deviations, and factor in geographic and administrative considerations.

The legislative committee's report stressed that the updates aim to build a fairer and more stable electoral framework that reflects not only numbers but constitutional justice in practice.
