TANTA, Egypt, May 8 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli stressed the importance of efforts meant to upgrade
capabilities of health facilities affiliated with the Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) to improve health services.
During the prime minister's tour Thursday to inspect work to develop and improve
efficiency of the project of Tanta Medical Complex, affiliated with the UHIA, the prime minister said, all efforts are meant to provide citizens with best medical care services.
Madbouli is expected to visit a number of
medical project sites during his tour in Gharbia Governorate, in northern Egypt, to support this vital sector.
Upon his arrival at the medical complex, the premier toured several parts of it, including the departments of dialysis and cardiac catheterization, pre-catheterization care, cardiac catheterization and post-catheterization care, as well as the general and cardiac care departments.
During the tour, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said, nearly 99% of the development work at the medical complex is complete.
The complex has 234 beds, including 43 intensive care beds, 15 dialysis beds and 42 chemotherapy beds, plus 14 beds in the reception department. It also includes six operating rooms, two of which are currently under development.
The minister said, the medical complex's monthly performance indicators reflect an occupancy rate of up to 80% in the internal departments and 80% in the intensive care unit. The complex witnesses approximately 1,640 surgical operations and 829 dialysis sessions per month, with an average of 2,392 visitors to the reception departments, he added.
He shed light on the Complex's active participation in implementing presidential initiatives in the field of public health, noting that the complex contributed to the initiative to eliminate waiting lists by performing 36,700 operations since its inception, as well as the "Every Second of Life" initiative by performing 1,055 emergency cardiac catheterizations, in addition to its significant role in implementing critical care and emergency initiatives, the early detection of cancerous tumors program, and other initiatives.
During the tour, Madbouli was briefed on the various treatment departments at the Tanta Model Medical Complex.
He also listened to the concerns of a number of patients in several departments at the medical complex, including those undergoing kidney dialysis, catheterization, and stenting. The prime minister was keen on inquiring about their health conditions and the level of service provided to them.
Meantime, the prime minister listened to
explanation from Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) Ahmed Mustafa about the services provided by the Authority's branch in Gharbia Governorate.
He noted that the Authority serves approximately 2.6 million beneficiaries out of a total population of 5.5 million in the governorate, with a coverage rate of approximately 50%. Of these beneficiaries, 52.6% are students and 22% are newborns, he said.
Mustafa also said the UHIA provides its services to the people of Gharbia Governorate through three hospitals: Tanta Medical Complex, Mabaret El Mahalla Hospital and Mabaret Tanta Hospital, adding that these health facilities have a total capacity of 283 inpatient beds, 74 intensive care beds, 34 nurseries, 20 operating rooms, 39 dialysis beds, 62 chemotherapy beds, and 44 reception beds. They also include 19 comprehensive clinics, 13 other clinics, 8 evening clinics, 17 specialized medical committees, and 165 contracting entities, he added.
He stated that hospitals affiliated with the UHIA in Gharbia Governorate see approximately 291 patient visits at their emergency departments daily and an average of 2,380 inpatients and 3,000 surgical operations per month. (MENA)
