CAIRO, Oct 16 (MENA) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Abu Bakr Hefny said Wednesday concerted international community efforts are needed to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people by providing humanitarian aid to civilians affected by military operations.

This came during the Deputy Minister's meeting with German envoy for the Horn of Africa Heiko Nitzschke in Cairo.

The two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in the Horn of Africa and Sudan, where Hefny stressed during the meeting Egypt's full solidarity with Sudanese people, and reviewed the efforts made by Egypt, in cooperation with regional and international partners, to get Sudan out of the current crisis in a way that preserves its security, stability, regional integrity, and the cohesion of its national institutions.

The Deputy Minister stressed the priority Egypt gives to achieving stability in Somalia, respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and supporting its institutions, which is reflected in securing international trade movement in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and combating terrorism, stressing that Egyptian support for Somalia comes from Cairo's assumption of its responsibility to maintain regional peace and security.

The German official expressed his appreciation for the extent of consultation between the two countries regarding developments in the Horn of Africa and Sudan.

He stressed his country's interest in continuing cooperation with Egypt in a way that would restore security and stability in the region. (MENA)
