CAIRO, May 10 (MENA) - Egypt on Friday welcomed the UN General Assembly (UNGA) vote for adopting the Arab-proposed resolution to support the right of Palestine's State to have full membership in the United Nations.

As many as 143 countries voted for granting the State of Palestine's membership and 9 against, with 25 abstentions.

According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, Egypt considered the adoption of this historic resolution as being a recognition of the rights of a people, who have suffered for more than seven decades of occupation.

On this occasion, Egypt called on the countries that have yet admitted the State of Palestine to take such an important step to support the Palestinian people's rights.

Egypt urged the UN Security Council and international influential actors to address the dangerous situation in the Gaza Strip, especially in Rafah city, which experiences difficult humanitarian conditions, as a result of the Israeli control of the crossings and denying the access of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave.

Egypt underlined the importance of intensifying international efforts to implement the two state-solution, which calls for establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 4 June, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. (MENA)
